The Chicago Humanities Festival is proud to announce that Artistic Director Lawrence "Ren" Weschler was awarded the 2006 National Book Critics Circle Award in Criticism for his book Everything That Rises: A Book of Convergences. "This particular award is special because it is awarded by book critics, by my peers. That makes it especially meaningful," said Ren this morning.
We congratulate Ren on this exceptional honor and wish him continued success.
The Board of the Chicago Humanities Festival (CHF) has announced that its founding Chair Richard J. Franke has transitioned to the position of Chairman Emeritus after 17 years at the helm of the institution. Willard G. Fraumann, most recently Vice Chair, has been elected the new Chairman of the Board.

Weschler Nominated for National Book Critics Circle Award
It's always a pleasure to share good news, particularly when it concerns our Artistic Director, Ren Weschler. His book, Everything That Rises: A Book of Convergences, was shortlisted this weekend as a finalist for the National Book Critics Circle Award in criticism. We are proud to congratulate Ren Weschler on this very prestigious nomination. The award will be announced on March 8th. We'll keep you posted on further developments.
The Chicago Humanities Festival is delighted to announce the receipt of a generous two-year grant of $150,000 from the Illinois Humanities Council for general operating support. The Chicago Humanities Festival will receive $75,000 for each year during 2005 and 2006.
